Look everywhere for bargains. I know when I’ve been at a local big pharmacy, I have found some great deals on canned foods or even those munchies that I shouldn’t be buying. Microwave popcorn is almost half the price at this big chain pharmacy as well.
Coupons are an incredible deal. But you have to use them to get the discount! lol If you plan out your meals each week, then using your coupons will be much easier. Figuring out a good place to put your coupons and organize them is a personal organization issue. I know many will put them in a coupon book and keep them in the car. I have a drawer that I put the coupons in and just use paper clips to separate different food groups. I know, real high tech right? But it works. If it is something we use a lot, then I actually tape it to the dry erase board we use for writing down our grocery list and that way hubby will take it with him if he goes.
Some stores will have double or triple coupon days when you can save even more. I’m afraid I can’t really comment on that though as this is not something that happens anywhere in my state. Hopefully someone else can give their tips about that. I believe we have one store that does it and the meat prices there are awesome, but we don’t get the almost 20 miles to it often. I’ll make sure and snag a lot of my coupons when we do go next time so I can give a yell out for the savings.
Plan your meals around the weekly advertising circulars. When something we use a lot of goes on a great sale, we buy it in bulk. We have a foodsaver and this has saved us a ton of money in food being not wasted. For example, we go through a lot of chicken in my house because of some of my health issues and just a common want of eating less fatty meat. We just bought over 20 pounds of chicken breasts because it was $1.78 a pound! Now it’s frozen in small packs to thaw for the next few weeks.
If one ingredient is a common denominator in many meals, consider buying in bulk to save money. Common staples like milk, eggs, bread and sugar can be bought in bulk as well.
